CM 81 EGR plugged?

Last night I replaced the emissions and EGR hoses on my engine and I noticed the previous owner had plugged the EGR valve hose. The A.I.R. and smog pump has also been removed.
I removed the plug in the EGR valve hose and replaced all the hoses to the way they are supposed to be routed according to the routing diagram on the inside of my hood.
My question to you guys is this: Does plugging the EGR valve hose improve performance? I have read different theorys on this and I wanted to get your take on it. We have no emissions testing in Florida so I'm not really worried about that. I think I just want my engine to run at it's best performance. So should I put the plug back in the EGR valve hose or leave it out?
Thanks for your input...

HI there,

EGR , on computer controlled engines does help performance when you are lightly accelerating and cruising.

It allows incoming air to mix with exhaust gas to reduce combustion temperatures and engine knock. This will allow for greater timing and less retard due to the knock sensor picking up the detonation.

ON WOT, the EGR does not operate so it has no bearing on WOT.

However, how many of us are really at WOT all the time ????

Allthebest, c4c5

I think I am going to leave the plug out then and let the engine breathe the way it was designed to.

I have been known to open the throttle up a little on highway on-ramps, but generally speaking, I don't drive with a very heavy foot.

I sure do appreciate your feedback though....Thanks!!
