CM overheating

Just rebuilt my 327/300 in my '66 . The engine runs like a charm but....................it really overheats . After running for about 15 minutes it starts puking coolant . I've checked the timing , radiator ,water pump , hoses, coolant level . Also had the coolant checked for exhaust gases (came back positive , bummer) . Then did a leak down test (all looked good) and checked for bubbles in the coolant (didnt find any) . There isn't any oil and the water or water in the oil .
Where else should I look ? This is driving me nuts

HI there,

You might have a cracked cylinder head that only shows up when it gets hot.

Certainly have seen that more than once.

Exhaust gasses in the coolant usually points to a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.

CM overheat

I would have thought the leak down test would have shown a bad head gasket ? Now I'm worried about a crack some where .

there is a fluid you can put into the coolant that will change color if exhaust gas is present. if you bought a rebuilt water pump make sure it does not have a stamped steel impeller instead of the cast iron one. make sure you have a working vacuum advance. make sure the water pump is not a reverse rotation one

CM overheating

The testing fluid is whats giving the indication of exhaust gasses in the coolant . It turns from blue to yellow in about 10 minutes after the engine starts to heat up .

looks like you found the problem. after checking the head gasket seal i would have the heads magnafluxed and/or pressure tested.
