My car died suddenly yesterday and won't restart. Fuel does not spray into the carb when I pump the accelerator. I have plenty of gas in the tank and the in-line filter bowl has fuel visable. Is it safe to assume that the fuel pump is dead? I am some what hesitant to changeout the pump with my limited mechanical experience. If I proceed is it necessary to remove all fuel from the tank to avoid it leaking when the line is disconnected at the fuel pump? Also, is any special attention required when securing the new pump in place such as allignment issues or bleeding? Any input on these items will help me decide whether to attempt this on my own or seek professional help.

HI there, Normally, you can cap the fuel line after you disconnect it from the fuel pump and it will not leak all the fuel out. The pump will self bleed. Also, you will need to watch the pushrod for the fuel pump and make sure it is UP so that the level slides in underneath it. There will be spring pressure as you torque the new pump down, this is normal. Allthebest, c4c5 |
