I have a 1971 C3, 350 CI, HP unknown, automatic tranny that starts then you can shut it off and it will not restart. That is no crank/engine turnover. Wait a few minutes and it will restart. The starter has been replaced as I thought it was the solenoid but the condition still exists. All you can hear is a slight thunk. Runs fine otherwise. Any suggestions as I hate to get stranded because of the problem. HELP PLEASE

HI there, The first thing I would suggest is to check to see if there is voltage to the starter. This would be to use a test light to determine what you have. If I was guessing, I would think the neutral safety switch, but the best way to do this is taking a test light, and have one person try to crank the engine while you test the voltage into the starter. Agree with the normal easy tests. I have a '71 that had a similar problem. Took many hours to resolve. Turns out the center console had shifted backwards due to years of use and caused interference with the neutral switch. Once I replaced the console and properly aligned all the parts so the switch wasn't being interfered with, no more problems.

Still into the problem. Found some broken bolts on the starter along with some wiring problems. I am assisting to bring her back to 100%. Will keep you posted.
