| I agree with the first part re: quality. My 02 Suburban has been fantastic (altho made in Mexico :) ). One problem with steering column rattle - fixed. I love that truck & this new 04 z06 is pretty tight too, one recall I guess on LCA washers or such. No rattles, stupid fast. |

| Gm for one has done a good job of hurting themselves.Look at the engine noise issues they have passed off as nothing to be concerned about.Trucks corvettes F cars you name it ! A lot of those engines tap for several Minutes when first started. This does a number on resale value.Just think after building engines for 40+ years they can not assemble engines properly now.Than hand it off as not effecting the overall life of the engine and value of the vehicle.I waved a flag for GM for many years. They have introduced a number of nice models over the last several years. But go and ruin there credibility with noisy engines go figure http://www.pistonslap.com/ |

| I may be too old to join the armed forces but I can do my part and make what many consider to be the second largest purchases in a household (automobilies) to be American.. JMO and I think American vehicles to be the best products in the world. Thanks for the article. JB |

| IMHO, the biggest contribution to the poor image is the warranty side of things. Every GM dealer I've ever dealt with gave me the impression that it was my problem, and not GM's. Marble in a can on the M6, rough idle on the LS1, seeping left diff, seeping mag shocks, etc. On my Toyotas, they go out of their way to fix the problem, and even offer to check on problems I've never noticed, but common ones that they've seen from other customer's vehicles. Night and day. GM has earned the reputation they've got, and I think I just read that one of their new compact cars wouldn't pass, or barely passed crash tests. |

| BillF6531 you have hit the nail right on the head. The problem is lots of Chevy dealer mechanics will dodge warranty repairs. The reason being the times gm pays have gotten increasingly ridiculous.Toyota warranty is a better deal for the mechanic and fairer wth there times. Its to the point that we will mostly just work on vettes we sell. And the vette guy meaning me is payed straight time to fix and treat the car properly. Most ridiculous GM repairs are handled that way now at my dealer. Its Increasingly harder to get good GM Techs with good reason.Just think cars that cost 50 and 60 grand being hacked to death by GM techs trying to make a living.Oh well maybe someday the powers that be will wake up one never knows ! |

Totally agree between American auto manufacturers and Japenese auto manufacturers attitude toward their customers. GM will tell you they will not fix a known problem under a recall, and Honda in contrast will ask you how soon you can get the vehicle in to them, and do you need a rental car that Honda will pay for. Night and day for sure. Hopefully they will wake up soon, time is running out!

My experience w/ domestic is 7 times out of 10 they (the service writer & manager) attempt to spin legit warranty work into full customer pay work by denying the warr claim. It totally sucks, sorry. First words out of their mouth are "I don't think that's covered yada yada" Where does that s##t come from, anyway?
