CM GM Certified Corvette

3 months ago I bought a 2007 Corvette from Mac Haik Chevrolet, via Ebay. My Vette is a GM certified pre-owned vehicle. When I took delivery I thought I noticed a slight discoloring in the right rear quarter panel. Called the dealer to ask if the car was ever re-painted. He said no. I though maybe I'm just being paranoid. Yesterday I took the car in to my local Chevrolet dealer for a minor problem and asked if the body shop could take a look at it and they told me that there was definately work done and it was done poorly. There is over spray on several other panels. The cost to correct is $2038.00. Does anyone know if I can get support from GM since this is suppose to be a GM Certified pre-owned car. Or am I just kidding myself.
Thanks,
Rick

Is there a WRITTEN representation from the selling dealer that the car was never repainted? Read the fine print.

If all you have is the phone call its "he said" & "she said" you don't have much case.

If yes, then go to the general manager at the selling dealership & discuss it. Bring the paperwork.

If not satisfied you pay for the repair & sue selling dealer for the cost in small claims court. Tell him that is how you will proceed.

If you think General Motors is going to go to bat for you on this, then I have a bridge in New York I would like to sell you.

It's funny buy buying & selling cars has not evolved very far from when our ancestors were buying & selling horses.

You might have some recourse thru ebay, but I have no knowledge of how it works.

Best of luck.

I agree with Foggy, and I'd contact Chevy customer service at their national headquarters. A few years ago i had bought a 95 Monte Carlo from a chevy dealer, and the motor siezed within ten days and needed to be rebuilt. Well the car, A Z-34 engine was a huge task to remove and rebuild. but the car was at the dealership for over a month and despite my calls, nothing seemed to be happening. I contacted Chevy Customer service and the nice lady I spoke with said she'd be in contact with the dealership. But she meant RIGHT NOW, she had me on hold and she talked to the dealerships service manager and low and behold, the dealership called and asked if I'd stop in. When I did the service manager said they had two problems, one was finding out what had happened to the motor( it turned out the center balance shaft was bent causing the engine to struggle to turn over or run. Second he said that another problem was finding a GM certified machanic in their shop who knew how to work on the Z-34. turns out they finished the car in five more day, spent almost 5K in time and rebuilding costs. I said I understood and I'd pay something toward the costs, but Chevy customer service called me and said they were covering all costs and I'd be able to pick up the car in a few days and that they would do a state inspection at no cost to me. So i think you have a good case and if you contact GM customer service you'll get some satisfaction. Good luck. Their are a lot of really good dealerships out there. But If it had been me I'd of gotten a Carfax report on the car or any car I'm considering buying. When I bought my 2003, I got a Carfax on my own despite the one the dealership provided. just my 0.02

I did get a CarFax and it was a clean report. Don't think I'll go to the trouble of filing in small claims court. I did call customer service, they said they couldn't get involved with the dealer, that was me job. After some discussion, in which I told them that I though I was buying a "GM Certified" car not a "franchisee certified" car, they said they would contact the dealer and would get back to me. Will let you know what happed. Thanks for the replies.

One thing I thought of is what does a GM Certified car state about body work which this car has? I thought GM cert was mechanical and safety parts and the like. Of course a GM cert car would not have visable body work such as a panel that has been crushed and a dealer does not fix it then that probably would not qualify as GM Cert. However in this case the car has all its panels and paint despite what was found as being not correct body work.

In order to carry a GM Cert title does the vehicle have to never be in an accident or had body work even minor done to it? I dunno, just asking what are the rules...

a G.M. certified car should come with a check sheet it lists everything that is supposed to be OK under the certification . ask for the sheet . If they do not have one for you I could at least post a blank copy for you that shows what is supposed to be done and what it is suppose to entail Steve
