Callaway offers new Corvette supercharger package

Callaway's supercharged Corvette engine cranks out 580 horsepower.

If the $100,000 ZR1 Corvette is out of reach, Callaway has a cheaper alternative to the factory's supercharged brute.

The Connecticut-based Corvette tuner has introduced a new supercharger package for base Corvettes models.

An Eaton/Magnuson supercharger; upgraded fuel, exhaust and air intake systems; and a remapped engine computer help the Vette's LS3 V8 put down 580 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

Callaway's power is 40 hp shy of the ZR1's 620 hp and gives up 85 lb-ft of torque, but the performance pack won't break the bank (as much)--it adds $18,500 on top of Corvette's $46,950 base price.

Styling changes include a new hood with silver "power bulge" to make room for the supercharger, and side and rear badges.

Chassis upgrades are not included in the package but are available for an additional cost. Among the upgrades are suspension, brake, wheel and tire modifications.

New cars can be purchased now through 13 Callaway-authorized GM dealers around the country, or directly from Callaway. The setup is available on coupes and convertibles with either manual or automatic transmissions.

If you own a 2008 Corvette already and want the upgrades, you can ship your car to Callaway to have the work done.

Everything is covered by a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty and meets emissions standards in all 50 states.

I just wish that they would train service technicians NOT affiliated with their preferred dealerships.
I CANT STAND learning on the job.
